PLEIONE is a late model Mark Lombard designed Alubat Cigale 16 launched in 2018.
Constructed from welded 5083 H111 aluminium, a high-grade marine alloy.
Lombard revised the earlier Jean Marie Finot designed Cigale 16 which already had a bit of a cult following among discerning yachtsmen, eliminating the water ballast in favour of a more streamlined hard chine hull and a fixed keel with a high performance lead bulb.
With added stiffness along with twin helms and rudders, Pleione is a high performance long range cruising yacht, easily sailed shorthanded on long offshore passages with comfortable sea berths outboard of the dining saloon in the aft sections and little reason to go forward at sea.
All lines are led below deck plates to the twin helm aft cockpit leaving the side decks uncluttered and the stern arch carries a solar array, antennae and davits for the dinghy, which can also be housed blow deck on the transom platform.
There are fixed and extendable bowsprits for the selection of off-wind reaching sails along with a set of radial cut performance head-sails and a square headed mainsail, all from Incidences, with little mileage, just one east to west Atlantic crossing and a few 12 knot passages between the Caribbean and New England.
Down below in a high quality and very modern light oak and leather interior there are three cabins and two heads in the forward sections aft of which is the galley and chart table leading to the aft saloon, with a very accessible Volvo diesel housed below the huge dining table.
An abundance of opening deck hatches and ports provide natural ventilation, with insulated topsides the interior feels comfortable in tropical climates. There is an Eberspacher cabin heater for the more northerly latitiudes and a watermaker for self-sufficiency.
The Cigale 16 is a quality long range performance cruising yacht, a number of which have done well documented circumnavigations.
Pleione is one of the most recent examples and is currently lying ashore in Antigua.
