Mack 3 is a Westerly Corsair 36 built in 1984 to an Ed Dubois design.
Between 1965 and 2000 Westerly Yachts based on the south coast of England built several thousand well founded bluewater sailing yachts. They are still well regarded and have a good following amongst discerning yachtsmen, there is an active owners association with 3,000 members worldwide.
The Corsair was one of Westerly’s most popular models with more than 100 built between 1983 and 1986. A centre cockpit sloop with a sea kindly design, this model has the shoal draft fin keel draws less than six feet, perfect for cruising the Bahamas and with her air draft of 55 feet she has bridge clearance for the Intra-coastal waterway.
Mack 3 has the three cabin two head layout, with two double cabins plus a single sea berth and two berths in the convertible saloon, she can accommodate seven crew. She has only had two owners from new and she was extensively refitted for a planned circumnavigation over two years from 2024 to 2025 with new rigging, new sails and canvas including a staysail, windvane steering, twin autopilots, Brunton Autoprop, new Raymarine instruments, sat comms, solar panels on a stern arch, Lithium Ion batteries, a Spectra watermaker and additional tankage, along with a refreshed interior. She had previously been repowered in 2012, still with low hours on the new Volvo, and the decks recovered with Flexiteak.
Since the refit she has proved to be a consummate passage maker, sailing from the South coast of England to the Orkney Islands, then down to the Cape Verde’s and an Atlantic crossing.
