Mistral is a Herreshoff schooner, 69 feet on deck. She is a strong comfortable and fast cruising yacht easily sailed double handed, with a fabulous provenance and priced to sell.
She was designed by Francis Herrreshoff, design #73 and built in 1938 by Britt Bros in Saugus, MA for Theodore W. Little. During the war Mistral saw use by the USCG to silently patrol for U boats and post war she was the first training ship of the USCG to sail across the Atlantic under the command of a female captain, for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
She was substantially rebuilt by the previous owner in Lunenberg and Martha’s Vineyard from 1996-2000 and again by Paulsen in Germany from 2006-2008 where no expense was spared.
The frames were strengthened with laminated mahogany ring frames and re-planked in 1 ¼” cedar with bronze fasteners, followed by an additional three layers of tri-directional cold moulded ¼” mahogany set in epoxy, then sheathed underwater for further protection.
The decks, deck fittings, timber spars and most of the interior were also replaced and she was re-rigged with a gaff fore-main in preference to the original Marconi rig. The Nanni 200hp auxillary diesel was installed more recently still with low hours.

The light and airy interior has four cabins, three heads and a spacious saloon, with excellent headroom throughout. Finished in cherry and off-white enamel in the classic Herreshoff style.
Mistral competed in the Antigua Classics regatta for the third time in 2023 and finished every race without incident.
